Why This Is Public
Going through retaliation is one of the most difficult things I’ve ever experienced. I did not make the decision to go public lightly. But I believe it’s the right thing to do.
The City of Ontario took deliberate steps to suppress a credible investigation into a serious allegation of corruption. I was asked to subordinate my judgment, compromise my ethics, and ignore my professional responsibilities as the City Auditor.
I refused.
I acted with integrity. And because of that, I was retaliated against.
Bringing this situation into daylight isn’t about personal reputation or image—it’s about public trust. I have full confidence that my actions will stand up to public scrutiny, because they were taken in the interest of the people I served. As uncomfortable as this is, I believe the public has a right to know when a city chooses retaliation over accountability.
As a proud American, I believe our heritage compels us to speak the truth, uphold integrity, and protect the public’s interest—especially when doing so is hard. That’s why I’ve chosen to make this public.
Let the City conduct its retaliation in daylight.
